Welcome to Onekawa School

It has been a rather damp start to the new term.  Fortunately there were one or two fine days in the holidays which allowed one of our classroom blocks to be re-roofed.  We are looking forward to warmer weather later in the term.
A warm welcome to the five new children who started on the first day of the term.  Our latest new entrant classroom is filling up rapidly.

Our Maori Language week, also in week 2 will culminate in an 'activities day' on Friday with all children participating in a range of cultural activities.
Training for our cross country events for all ages, to be held late in the term will also begin shortly and a new round of after school sport starts in week 2.
Our year 6 students are looking forward to their camp at Stoney Creek Ranch on 10-13 August.  It promises to be another challenging and fun-filled week.

Maori Experience Day

To end Maori language week all children were placed into groups with children from other ages and sent off to different teachers to participate in a variety of different Maori arts, crafts, dance, drama and other traditional games.
Children were involved in acting out different myths, making things with harakeke and lots of art with koru.  Some children got to experience the traditional game of Ki-O-Rahi which was a lot of fun.  A great day was had by all.
