Principal’s Welcome!
Welcome to Onekawa School’s new website. I hope that by exploring our website you will find useful information about our school and what we have to offer.
Onekawa School is located in suburban Napier, a short distance from the popular Kennedy Park Motor Camp. Our road frontage is small so it’s easy to miss us. However, once you’re through our gates you’ll be impressed with the space, attractive environment and well maintained facilities. Inside you will enjoy seeing our newly refurbished classrooms and administration areas.
We are a decile three school. Our roll by the end of 2010 is expected to be about 370. We have 15 full time teachers, seven part time teachers and a team of support staff. We also have two Resource Teachers of Literacy and three Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour based at our school.
Onekawa School children are delightful. Our ERO report from November 2008 states: ‘Students are highly engaged in learning. They learn in well organised environments where social skills are positively affirmed. Teachers work collaboratively to assist students who have particular learning needs, including those who benefit from extension. Success is celebrated, students demonstrate pride in their work and they are motivated learners.’
Our report is one we feel very proud of; it is well worth a read!

Our teaching and learning programmes are stimulating and challenging for all children. Staff are excited about the new NZ curriculum and how we can adapt it to meet the needs of our own children. We have an innovative, effective and highly regarded approach to reporting to parents on their children’s achievements.
We are a strong sporting school, offering many opportunities for children to participate and excel in team and individual sports. Swimming instruction is available to all children in our school pool and we make good use of the nearby Napier Aquatic Centre. Children also enjoy a variety of cultural activities including music, performing arts and kapahaka.
If you would like to know more please phone me on 06 843 8297 and I would be very happy to answer your questions or arrange a visit.
